The work references a song composed by Henry Purcell in honour of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of music:
Z 339 “Welcome to all the pleasures”. The lyric was written by Christopher Fishburn: soldier, composer, poet and a nephew of Sir Christopher Wren. The song was first performed in the York Buildings, London, 22 November 1683.
